Hi Maureen, I am FAR from Lance, far from Lance, but I've used System Restore many times. It is a feature of Win XP that has saved me at least 5 times that I remember. It is a System Tool that Windows XP provides. (Other system tools would be scan disk, or defrag; it's a tool just like those programs are system tools) You access it by going to the Start menu, then All Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, then System Restore. From my big XP book: "Special Edition, Using Microsoft Windows SP Professional, Bestseller Edition" by Robert Cowart & Brian Knittel [QUOTE] "System Restore is a fabulous mechanism which first appeared with Windows Me. Now Windows SP incorporates it too. System Restore enables you to restore the computer to a previously saved state. So, you can 'roll back' your computer to the way it was working before your dog jumped on the keyboard, or before you installed that stupid program or device driver that lunched your system. Here's how it works. Performing a system restore does not affect personal files, such as documents, Internet favorites, or email. It simply reverses system configuration changes and moves installed files to return the system to a stored state. System Restore automatically monitors your system for changes. Periodically easily identifiable restoration points are created. Plus, you can create your own restoration points manually." [END QUOTE] Restore points confused me a bit. It would have helped to know that a 'restore point' is simply a date to which I can restore. It's not a point, it's a point in time. You can go to the System Restore tool and look at it to see what you think. It's not one that will restore or do anything else unless you tell it to do it. I hope this helps until Lance can better explain. I want to UNDO the change if possible, or if not possible then after it's done go back to my default. The steps I used were: Tools, Options,Maintenance, Store Folder, and Change. When the box came up showing the "Change Browse", my cursor was accidentally resting on a file I didn't recognize, so I highlighted it to see what it was. Then the restart box came up. Lesson learned: don't be too curious when doing new things on PC. By System Restore, do you mean with my disk?? As you can see, I rarely have problems; that's why I don't know what you mean. Maybe the reason for my problem free PC for the past 6 yrs is no experimentation :):):). Did you take note of the actual steps you chose? You will need to record those to know where your Store Folder's new location will be. Did you backup your data BEFORE starting those steps? If in doubt, about your actions, do a System Restore NOW, back to a date before you started moving the folder today. That should allay your fears. I just went to the site you provided, copied the directions re "store folder" and before I could decide if I wanted to do this, a dialog box came up and said that changes would take effect when I shut off and restarted my computer. Now I'm afraid to shut off my computer in case ALL my emails move. How can I either get back to my old default store method or transfer only the emails I want put in the new store?? All you need to do is maintain good "housekeeping" with your OE files and don't accumulate more messages than your drive can handle. Again, there is good advice on INSIDEOE about compacting your OE folders, and in particular good advice about NOT using the auto compact feature: http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm#auto Lance -----Original Message----- From: Phil Stevens [mailto:joe2phil@drizzle.com] Sent: Thursday, 12 August 2004 12:36 To: Gen.
