I was wondering the more knowledgable listers comments on the safety of using a credit card to purchase over the internet. I have always been happy about buying this way but yesterday I purchased something from a reputable company and today I received an email from an unknown person/company acknowledging my order. It looks as if I have purchased a computer for an amount in US dollers on a credit card (details copied below) does anyone have any knowledge of this or comments? Did you actually purchase the item that is being confirmed?? I buy thru amazon.com quite often. The confirmation sometimes comes from the company from which amazon is ordering my merchandise Maureen. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary" <mm.henson@tiscali.co.uk> To: <GEN-COMP-TIPS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 11, 2004 12:07 PM Subject: [Gen-Comp-Tips] credit card safety I was wondering the more knowledgable listers comments on the safety of using a credit card to purchase over the internet. Mary, I know how terrible you feel about this, but I'm sure with some of the solutions that will come from this group will solve the problem. Let me give you some advice I received several years ago: Get a special credit card just for online purchases. We have one where we keep a maximum of $1,000, but usually ot usually it's around $500 or $600, and that account is used strictly for online purchases. This suggestion came from several people who consistently make online purchases of computer software, for instance. In fact, one man told me he had several credit cards with low balances and switches from one to the other to make his purchases, the reason being that way no one card was the one always in use for one website. Hope this helps. Pat At 12:07 PM 8/11/2004, Mary wrote: >I was wondering the more knowledgable listers comments on the safety of >using a credit card to purchase over the internet.
