    3. Peggy, I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm for Win Me, but it is generally acknowledged as the worst version of Windows Microsoft ever released. Win XP is generally accepted as their best effort yet, despite the need for this SP2 upgrade. From all reports it really is an upgrade more than just a bunch of patches. The discussion you have been reading is mainly about handling the "size" of the SP2 download, not with any problems within Win XP. This site will help you understand what SP2 is all about and perhaps show you what you may be missing with Win Me: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/preinstall.mspx This chart shows good reasons to switch to Win XP Home edition: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/evaluation/whyupgrade/top10.mspx While this chart shows the difference between XP HOME and XP PRO editions http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/choosing2.mspx Lance -----Original Message----- From: Peggy Broughton [mailto:peggyj@our-town.com] Sent: Wednesday, 18 August 2004 21:02 To: GEN-COMP-TIPS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Gen-Comp-Tips] Genealogy and a healthy system I don't have XP. I am still using W ME ,on my computer, but do have a dial up connection and some updates get stopped when the connection breaks, which has been a lot lately especiall early in the morning about this time for some reason, some will restart from the first and some will pick up where they left off, and I can't tell you which. After reading all the emails about XP , I am wondering if I will ever change from ME, I know that there is going to be a time when I won't be able to use all the programs, but maybe what I use , I will still be able to use on ME, I am a home user, and about all I use my computer for now is email and recording my genealogy, and use the search engines to" window"shop for things I am condidering buying . Right now I am not even keeping my finances on it, Like a lot of people I learn to use the programs I use the most and that is all, I don't care what makes it work, I just want it to work when I need it. and I try to keep it very clean and up todate. 3. It is not that I am enthusiastic about Win Me, but is what came on the last new computer that I bought, after I had one complete set up fried by a lightening strike.and I think ME has severed me well, for what I am doing. and at my age I have not kept up with all the newest teck stuff, and as long as this works for me, then that is what I will use,My grandfather used to say, "if it aint't broke, then don't fix it" when I am forced to do something about it , I guess I will, but that at this time remains to be seen, Peggy in rainy Texas this morning.
