Does anyone know of a program capable of doing a search of spaces and replace with - on all of the photos in a directory? I have over 3500 jpg's in attached to my family file in Legacy and the prospect of doing each one manually and then reattaching is a bit daunting. Any suggestions? art Seddon ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marilyn Bennett" <mitsy_9@yahoo.ca> To: <gen-comp-tips@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 30, 2008 4:12 AM Subject: Re: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] Labelling photos Getting some good advice in this thread, but would like to add one Don't leave a space when naming any file, put a - dash or _ underscore. The reasoning is some computer programs may only look at a file name until the first blank space, making your photo unable to open. I get this advice from my brother who is a Oracle data base Programmer. He suggests labeling like this 20080430_001_touring_falls_01 or 19191119_mcvicar-brown_wed_scan He uses initials if there are many in the photo. 20000829_005_N_D_F_K_M I like the idea of using an extra space around the photo to add information. I do a lot of scanning of older photos from my parent's albums. If they have anything written on the back, I scan that too just to remind me later who was in the photo & it is nice to have it in their writing.
