    3. CD-RW is rewritable but is not as stable. Backing up to CD's at all is iffy so you should have more than one copy. Even two is not necessarily sufficient. I lost many years of journals when both CD backups developed cracks for no known reason. The length of time CD's last is also debatable, anywhere from no time to a few years. Nowadays I back up to two external hard-drives, a collection of flash-drives and online at Mozy. Occasionally I'll throw something on a CD or DVD but I wouldn't make that my main back up. I think it's important to choose more than one option. Spread your important files around for security.
