    3. On the contrary, Microsoft do send security update bulletins, either by email, RSS feed, or Windows Live Alert, if you subscribe to them: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/notify.mspx These are sent in a special format which helps identify them as being genuine Microsoft Bulletins. They certainly do not include attachments. The one received by a member was definitely not from Microsoft as has been pointed out by many. -----Original Message----- From: k_ivey@bellsouth.net Sent: Sun, 30 Mar 2008 19:05:55 -0500 To: gen-comp-tips@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] MS Security - Critical Update Attached As others have pointed out, Microsoft does not send emails regarding updates. Don't click on any links in the message and delete it. If you are concerned about Windows/Microsoft updates make sure you have automatic updates enabled. You can also go to the "real" Windows Update site by clicking on "Windows Update". It should be on your Start Menu somewhere. A good rule of thumb is to never, ever respond to or click on any links in an email regarding program updates or an email asking you to verify your username, password, or personal information. Those kinds of emails are either contain viruses, send you to a malicious website, or try to steal your personal information. If in doubt contact the company in question directly using the websites, email addresses, and telephone numbers you usually use to contact them. I hope this helps!
