Hi Becky, Sounds like you may have broken the links to those files by changing their location. If you click on the icons, do they still work? For example, if you saved a file to Becky's book in the first instance but then move it to Becky's box ----- Original Message ----- From: "Becky Pleiman" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 10, 2007 11:20 AM Subject: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] File Attributes have changed > Hello All, > > As a result of installing the new external HD: > - I've been cleaning up the main HD: > - Filing docs into folders and subfolders > - Deleting files that are not needed > - Then copying or cuting and pasting onto the new > external HD > > Please keep in mind that I am working with a Windows > 98SE operating system. > > I've just noticed that *most* data files, on the main > HD, have new icons and the file attributes have > changed. > > For a couple of examples: > > - The usual JPEG icon now looks like a .txt file icon > (lined notebook page, spiral rings at the top) with an > ink pen. Hi Judith, As far as I can tell, I haven't opened every file, all of the files (about 50-60 files) that I have checked, open up in the correct place, when I click on the file name: .doc / Word files open correctly into Word .xls / Excel files open correctly into Excel .JPG / .BMP and other graphic files open, just fine in PhotoShop and other graphic software programs. I can open all files, even if they are on my main C:\ drive or if they are on my new external HD. ***** The only thing that has changed are the file (type) icons ... and the file attributes, when I click on properties, most are read only and a few are checked as archived. Before, as I recall, none of the boxes were checked. Thanks for your help.
