I would first like to thank n.east, Brenda, and Blaisdell for their replies. I found after I posted my message to the list that there was a second window message that referred to 0x800106ba. I did a search using this reference. Found a number of people around-the-world were have the same problem. Several corrected the problem by adding another server file but not activating it. Can figure how this would help is if it were not an active file. One people simply removed the program from the control - add/remove section and reinstalled the Windows Defender. So I figured that would be an easy fix. Then I noted that the last time Windows Defender was used on my PC was July 9, this year. So I decided to not reinstall the file. Have I done a no - no? I also got to thinking I am using other programs to do the same things this defender does. Could these programs be fighting? It would explain all the delays and hang-ups I have had over the past few months. John in California

That's good advice as I have made use of the windows Installer CleanUp Utility on a couple of occasions and it is very effective. It can be downloaded from the link on this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] > Sent: Tue, 2 Jan 2007 16:12:26 +1000 > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] GEN-COMP-TIPS Digest, Vol 2, Issue 1 > > Hi John .I had the same problem and went to the www.microsoft.com .and > downloaded windows Installer CleanUp Utility package, now that was after > I > removed the old program then I downloaded the new Defender Program , Hope > this Helps Regards Roy > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "John Contratto" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Tuesday, January 02, 2007 8:13 AM > Subject: Re: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] GEN-COMP-TIPS Digest, Vol 2, Issue 1 > > > >I would first like to thank n.east, Brenda, and Blaisdell for their > >replies. >> >> I found after I posted my message to the list that there was a second >> window >> message that referred to 0x800106ba.
