I'm not following - why would a GEDCOM be trying to open in a FTM archive viewer? Archive viewers are for viewing documents, not GEDCOM's. What you do with a GEDCOM is import it into an existing database, after opening that database, or else create a new database and import the GEDCOM. I would think even in FTM, Hoagy Capitol of Genealogy programs. FTM has more problems than one can shake a stick at. You might try downloading PAF for free from the familysearch.org web site, and try to open it with that. With PAF, you first create or open a database, tehn import your GEDCOM. Even if the only purpose of the database is to view that GEDCOM to see what is there before you possibly mess up your actual genealogical database with it. PAF is a very down to earth and versatile program. It ought to be able to open the GEDCOM even it if is old or created in an unusual coding. On the other hand, I actually have Legacy, so I know how to specifically use it to open a GEDCOM. It doesn't sound like you are following the procedure at all. To view a GEDCOM with Legacy, you must first open or create a database to view it with, then import the GEDCOM, selecting the appropriate choice of what you are importing from teh menu.
