    3. OpenOffice.org is just a free alternative to MS Office, nothing more. It can open and write Word (.doc) and Excel (.xls) files (and Powerpoint, 'tho maybe not perfectly). I'm not quite sure what you mean by "gather up" -- OpenOffice will open the MS Office files in "My Documents" or any other place where you've stored them, if that's what you mean. It doesn't "gather" and re-copy all the files to its own directory, by default. If you have MS Office installed already, there's no reason to remove it. You can use either MS Office or OpenOffice -- whichever you prefer. In fact, since there are a few ways which MS Office and OOo are not compatible, it's not a bad idea to keep both programs, "just in case". 3. With all of this about Word and Works and Office Suite and Works Suite: There are several levels of Office and Office Suite, all contain Word and Excel, I think, and go up from there. Does anyone realize that MS Works comes without MS Word. (About $50) --It has a word processor and a spreadsheet, but they aren't compatible with, or comparable to Word and Excel.-- MS Works SUITE comes with MS Word and a few other things.(about $100) http://www.microsoft.com/products/works/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=002&active_tab=Compare Alfred
