I'm sure I read somewhere recently of a way of clearing out unwanted files in the Registry. Can someone please enlighten me, as I have several *Hotbar* files which I need to get rid of. Many thanks, Jan.
Jan, before you move to editing the Registry, have you used a good pest remover to remove Hotbar? There are a number available which will remove Hotbar completely. One I would recommend that does a more thorough job than any other is SpyCatcher. It is not free but it has a 15 day trial period in which it will find and clean any pests on your computer: http://www.tenebril.com/products/ghostsurf/spycatcher.html [QUOTE] SpyCatcher scans your disks, memory and system registry to find all forms of spyware. Strong Reinstall Shield feature keeps spyware and adware from coming back. Detective feature lets you see all the hidden programs running on your computer. SpyCatcher's history lets you undo any changes you make to your computer, recovering disabled spyware if you want. The Protector feature monitors your computer constantly for running spyware. You'll know the instant spyware is installed, without even running a scan. [END QUOTE] If you do wish to edit the Registry there are a number of programs that allow you to do that. Of course, always BACKUP first (either System Restore in Win XP/Me of EXPORT from Registry Editor). The one I have recommended in the past - RegClean - is an older Microsoft program no longer supported. It would work quite well with Win 95/98. For XP users though probably purchasing something like Registry Healer from: http://www.fixregistry.com/index.htm or CleanMyPC - Registry Cleaner from: http://www.registry-cleaner.net/ would be better options. There are quite a number of others available which a search of Google will find You should not need to edit the Registry though if you download and run SpyCatcher as I am sure it will do the "cleaning" job for you.
