Just a thought. XP allows some programs to run as in an earlier version of Windows. I had to choose Windows 95 Compatibility Mode to run one program properly. Right click on the program icon, select Properties, and then Compatibility Mode. Don't know if this will help you, but it's worth a try. Or go to XP Help on your computer and select Fixing a Problem. That helped me once when something wouldn't run right. I can't recall whether I've run the 1881 UK census on my XP computer, but I have successfully run the 1880 US census there. (I have XP Home edition, original installation when I bought my computer.)
