I had corrected the sort by going to the Views icon, and clicking on Sort by Name again. I have no arrow in WORD 2000 but clicking works as you say. dolphin213 wrote: > > Bob, > > Right click in My Documents on an open space. You will see 'Arrange Icons > By'. If I File - Open and right click on My Documents in the Look In window I get "What's This" and there is no help for it. Arrange Icons is in the Views icon. and "Alfred d. The Views icon does have Details which is what I have selected to show details. Why would I have to enlarge the window? > Click on any heading to sort by that column, click again to reverse > the sort of that column.> Yes that works. bob gillis

The rightmost icon in my Open window in word 2000 on Win 98 machine is the "Views" icon, at least that's what the popup tool tip says. The down arrow at it's right lets you choose the details view, clicking on it cicles you through the available options. You sometimes have to enlarge the window or change the column widths so that you can see the rightmost ones. Alfred Eller RootsMagic-Users-Admin@RootsWeb.com ======================== ==============

    3. Bob, I think you misunderstood what I wrote. dolphin213 wrote: > > > > Bob, > > > > Right click in My Documents on an open space. You will see 'Arrange Icons > > By'. If I File - >Open and right click on My Documents in the Look In window I get "What's >This" and there is no help for it. Arrange Icons is in the Views icon. Your original post was about sorting your Icons within the My Documents folder. <quote> In the past few days when I File - Open - My documents the list of folders is in descending order and the list of files is also in descending order x**** first and 1800*** last. I have not done anything that I know to cause this reversal of order. I cannot find anything in the tool bar of help about changing the sort order. How can I set the sort back to ascending?<unquote> To this I responded with an easy method of arranging the icons in any way you wanted within the My Documents folder. It would not apply to within WORD. In which case you would indeed get the "What's This" response. The method I wrote about has been a Windows feature since Win95 and I'm sure that it applies to all versions (since it is also in XP). The 'key' word about the above is WITHIN. The other methods offered by Lance and Alfred will work equally as well. Chose which ever method works best for you. Art
