    3. Hello kind helpers, I have just recently upgraded to Windows XP and find that I cannot install my old faithful Canon fb310 scanner. I wrote to Canon who say that they do not recognize this scanner (it carries the Canon name and logo) and to contact the local source of supply which I did only to be advised that they have no recommendation for its installation even though it (fb310) is recognized for other operating systems ie W95 W98 NT and 2000. Any thoughts? Joe

    3. Yes, that is one of the consequences of upgrading to Windows XP, Joe. Many older peripherals are not compatible with it. You may be able to do a search for a new driver which will allow it to work with XP but I doubt if you will find one. 3. Joe, Does your scanner use a USB connection to your PC? If so, buy a hub (ask clerk at Best Buy or any computer store). They are relatively inexpensive (less than $60.) I know this sounds crazy, but it worked for me. I had a similar problem with my HP scanner and printer when I went to Windows XP. You connect the hub to your PC using a USB port. Depending on which hub you buy (I have 4 USB ports on mine), you can install your scanner, printer or anything that you are having trouble with. Then your scanner is plugged into one of the USB ports on the hub. It works. There is a technical explanation for this and it involves the assignment of IRQs (interrupt request lines) with Windows XP. The automatic assignment that the operating system does, simply doesn't work. Somehow the hub circumvents this. Crazy, but try it and let us know if it worked.
