It won't print from the color cartridge if the color cartridge is either out of ink or the print heads or whatever you called them, which are the part of the cartridge that applies the ink to the paper, are dried or blocked. This could easily happen if you haven't printed much in color in awhile. Try soaking the print head in alcohol and running the cleaning cycle a couple of times to see fi that helps. I THINK the print heads are on the cartridge in HP printers. I had a printer that my sister ahd given my mother, that the print heads were seperate, and when they clogged regularly, since I didn't print much in color, you could use an entire SET of ink cartridges before you had them unclogged. I looked in my WORD 2003 and can't find any setting for printing in color. There is a setting for printing images and background colors. I don't know what the other program you're using is. Just to test, try to print something that has color pictures off teh Internet. You may also be able to run a basic nozzle or print quality check on your printer.
