I know nothing about Windows Defender Service. It appears I have it on my PC. The following window popped up on my PC and reads: "Application failed to initialize a problem caused Windows Defender Service to stop. To start the service restart or search help and support on how to start a service manually." I tried restart which did not work, then I tried shut down, this did not correct the problem. This problem came up while using outlook express. Have noted small problems every since I upgraded to outlook 7. Can not find any reference to Windows Defender Service on help. Can so one help me out? John

I cannot help with the problem but it is happening to me too. I close down my computer at night and on rebooting the same message pops up. It started yesterday (Sunday,Sydney AUS time) I do know that I have Windows Defender and it has been running normally until now. Hi I had the same problem, I went to control panel then add/remove programmes, & deleted windows defender, next I went to Google typed in windows defender found the free download & installed. It is ok now.
