This is exactly what is happening to my computer. When I try to find a restore point earlier than August 28th 2004 it will not show any earlier calendar month than August. Coincidentally, or is it?, August 28th is exactly 2 years after I bought the machine on which I have XP Pro. It has created a new restore point every day since end of August and with the slider set to max there should be plenty of storage available. Is it possible to clear all restore point data stored before a give date. Accompanying this problem I find that the CD burner fan starts and runs for 10 or 15 seconds when I boot up. This stops immediately if I open the CD thingo.(forgotten the name). I noticed recently that while on line, update stuff, presumably SP2, was being downloaded, for long periods, but don't know if it has been installed. An old Win98 machine, (99 vintage 400) I have won't boot at all unless the CD thingo is open! I'm tempted to save all my data and start again with a new machine.
