What make are your PC and monitor, and how old are they ? My two year old TFT flatscreen and PC don't really like screensavers. This is because the screensaver plays havoc with the powersaver feature, which sees the PC and monitor hibernate after a period of inactivity. I simply switched the screensaver off, and now everything works fine ! Best wishes.
