    1. Re: [Gen-Comp-Tips] Loading a CD Census on My Computer
    2. Bob I get it loaded on o.k. and get 3 icons, Brit1851 census - intro16 - setup I d.click on the setup and this takes me thro. to the "census has been successfully installed", but when I try to open it my Nero program launches itself and I get a message "unrecognized file format". I have never used the Nero program. Also, I have never heard of Resource File Viewer. Hope this helps John

    3. That sounds like a problem with file association. The extension on these files is set to be opened with Nero, but the file isn't what Nero expects, so it can't do anything with them. Changing the file association depends on your operating system. You may be able to: Click once on the icon to highlight it, hold down the shift key while Right clicking on the icon to bring up a dropdown menu, Choose "Open With" (if it's there) Find the program that you want to open this type of file and check the box before "Always use this one" (or whatever it says.) If you do not find the "Open With" choice in the dropdown menu, you will have to check your Windows Help menu under "Extension" and, in Windows 98 I see the title: "To change which program starts when you open a file " ====== I am only guessing, but the resource file fiewer should be something you get with, or as a supliment to the census disks. If you can get the file extension to be associated with that, you should be in business. Alfred D.
