Trevor, I've never had a Memory Stick (Sony trademark) so I don't know the details, but I believe Memory Sticks have some "extra" software; maybe part of that is trying to be "helpful" and find pictures for you. Other types of flash memory don't do that, as far as I know. Did you have to load a special driver for your Memory Stick? --there may be an option in there to disable the searching. Or, I think some photo organizing software (Google Picasa, perhaps) has features that search your whole system for new images every time it's activated.
