    1. [GEN-COMP-TIPS] Stupid's Back
    2. If any of you remember I am the person that had the computer crash several weeks ago. I had downloaded my backup disk but it would not connect with anything. It was left floating in space. I was advised to get a new program. Today I installed my NEW FTM # 16. I have a beautiful blank family page. When I hit the old FTM file I am told this file is "open and in use". Can any of you computer literate people help gal? I have never felt so stupid. gene

    3. Gene. You may have to explain what you have done. Like did you install the new FTM first. What steps did you take to install the old FTM files? Did you have more than one old file? Have you checked under "my computer" then "your documents", then under "ftw" to see which files you have? If your old FT file is listed click to open it and see what happens. These are just things to keep you busy until someone comes along that knows what they are doing. (:=)) John <SNIP> > Today I installed my NEW FTM # 16. 3. Hi Gene There are two specific lists for FTM that may have the answer for you if you have not solved it as yet http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Software/ May be an answer in their archives? 3. If you copied the family file from a CD to your computer's hard drive, it will probably have the write protect, or read only, attribute set. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the file on your hard drive, Right click on the file, select properties and remove the checkmark from the read only box and then try it. Alfred D. IF my memory serves me right there is a list like this one specifically for FTM so you may get more help on that list.
