Hi Janet I have not had any experience with flash drives, but I would have to say that anything you put on it is "read only". You have to copy it back to your hard drive to make changes (you may need to right click on the name of file [before opening it] and select properties and uncheck "read only" in the attributes box and click apply), then re-save it to the flash with a new name or add a number to the first one. I am using Microsoft word and have found the directions on how to create a folded booklet. But when I tried to save it to my flash drive, I got a message that it would be saved as a read only file. I don't want this as I may have to make some changes as I go along. Got any suggestions. I know can save to the thumb drive the same as any other drive. I don't know what you are calling a "flash drive". You would not be able to save it if is a "read only" file. spc Sue spcarpenter5468@gmail.com ----- Original Message ----- From: <raking.leaves2@gmail.com> To: <gen-comp-tips@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 02, 2008 4:14 PM Subject: Re: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] Need a bit of help Hi Janet I have not had any experience with flash drives, but I would have to say that anything you put on it is "read only". Thank you for replying to my post. With every other document I have saved to the "flash" drive I have been able to bring it up and make changes and save the changes in the document to the same file name. However, when my regular r/w drive - when it says read only I cannot make changes. I have never had this happen before. At any rate, thank you for responding. I appreciate your help. ----- Original Message ----- From: raking.leaves2@gmail.com To: gen-comp-tips@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, May 02, 2008 4:14 PM Subject: Re: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] Need a bit of help Hi Janet I have not had any experience with flash drives, but I would have to say that anything you put on it is "read only".
