Thank you for replying to my post. My "flash drive" is a small drive that I can carry with me and use on any computer that has Microsoft Word. I am able to save to it, bring the document back up, make changes and save again to the same file. This is the first time I have had the message that it is a read-only file. You have to copy it back to your hard drive to make changes (you may need to right click on the name of file [before opening it] and select properties and uncheck "read only" in the attributes box and click apply), then re-save it to the flash with a new name or add a number to the first one.
