Seems to me that everything starting with the number 1 coming before anything starting with the number 2, regardless of length is the same way my dictionary is sorted - everything starting with the letter a comes before anything starting with the letter b. And that was designed a couple of years before Legacy or Microsoft. It has nothing to do with computers. I can take advantage of an option in spreadsheet programs to sort in a normal way so I do not have to *label* a number "1" as "0001". Some genealogical tree-type software, not confined to Microsoft code, will sort Family numbers and Individual numbers as real-world normal without requiring the tags or place-holders. It is very disappointing not to be able to make WinExplorer do the same. But thank you for the suggestions. Yep, so in the computer world, you need those zero's to line up the numbers. It falls in line with how numbers all line up on the right side of a paper when adding or subtracting. It's called 'logic' thinking with PC's. Not 'rational' thinking. -----Original Message----- From: gen-comp-tips-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:gen-comp-tips-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Art Seddon Sent: Saturday, May 03, 2008 11:43 PM To: gen-comp-tips@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] Getting filenames to displayinactualnumericorder - help please!
