Hi Dennis, Thank you for responding to my request for help. I am able to create a document, save it on my flash drive - bring it up again from the flash drive, edit it and save it to the flash drive just as if I were using my hard drive. That is why I was so surprised when I got the message about it being a read-only file. I have never had that happen before. However, I am going to use a different program so I don't have to worry about it any more. Thank you again for responding to my post. In all cases it is important that the read only attribute (found in the file properties) on the main or original file is not ticked. If the attribute is ticked, deselect the tick, apply the change and click OK. To summarise. 1. The main or master copy on main computer can be edited and copied to flash drive. 2. The copy on the flash drive can be edited either on the main computer or another computer (with the appropriate program installed) and copied to the main computer. The above also applies if the master copy is on the flash drive. If this helps I would be happy to post a step by step guide to the procedure. I am not sure it is the saving program's fault. It could be that the sub-folder is write protected or the file itself. (Write protected and Read only are the same things, just said by people with different memory spans.) Either way, right click on the file or folder and choose Properties, If there is a check mark in the Hidden box, click the box to make it go away. Then load the file. By the way: Files sent to CDs are automatically write protected, files sent to flash memory drives are not and can be edited there on the flash drive. If you copy a file from a CD to your hard drive, it will still be write protected until you remove the read only attribute. Alfred D.
