Each time I log onto my computer and go to Outlook Express I receive a message that 'Outlook Express has not shut down correctly.' This message shows on the last message in my inbox and only on startup of my PC. I have Googled the web for help but I am not a computer geek and the language is way, way above my head. Can anyone out there throw light and tell me in easy steps what needs to be done to rectify the problem. I am running XP Home SP2 using Norton Anti-virus which is all updated etc. This PC is new and was preloaded with XP but I do not know which version of IE I am using. Where do I find that? It seems such a minor problem but is it one I should be concerned about? Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Heather
Hi Heather To find the version number of your IE , open a window and look under the help menu, for About Internet Explorer The problem you have with OE sounds like a corrupted file (a google search indicates) The poster of the same problem some time ago was advised to move all e mails to a new folder, then locate the DBX file in question and delete it, OE will renew that folder (if it was a standard folder to begin with not one you have created) when next it opens and you can then move the e mails back Have you compacted your mails at all? You should do so before doing anything else (and with all programs closed and offline) Perhaps others will give you more specific instructions deleting of a corrupt file if pertinent Whatever the case, you should do a back up of your mails just in case of problems You may be aware already but there is a list for OE specific, a search of the archives might find the information you seek http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/Internet_Help/OUTLOOK-EXPRESS.html Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > Each time I log onto my computer and go to Outlook Express I receive a > message that 'Outlook Express has not shut down correctly.' > This message shows on the last message in my inbox and only on startup of > my PC. > > I have Googled the web for help but I am not a computer geek and the > language is way, way above my head. > Can anyone out there throw light and tell me in easy steps what needs to > be done to rectify the problem. > > I am running XP Home SP2 using Norton Anti-virus which is all updated etc. > This PC is new and was preloaded with XP but I do not know which version > of IE I am using.
