He'll probably have to delete any of the BSD *partitions* that he wants to use, then create new partitions for Windows. You could use the Windows "fdisk" utility for that. Or, it may be easier to just wipe the drive completely clean before installing Windows. The disk manufacturer would have a downloadable utility, or use DBAN (dban.sourceforge.net). Judy, Can you put a cable between the two computers?? What happens if you do a simple 'save as' to the cd then load it to the new computer?? We're learning photoshop elements at tafe but save onto flashdrives or our computer. Cheers. The "workaround" appears to begin with downloading the viewer from Microsoft. The rest of it is essentially a copy-and-paste into a new OpenOffice document. --- "n.east" <neast@inbox.com> wrote: > There is a work-around to enable OpenOffice to open ".wps" files. Thank you Art and N East for the responses but I was not able to get anything to serve. On the site you gave me, Art, I was not clever enough to actually find my way to the required download. Through yours, N East, I downloaded and ran wdviewer.exe but the installed program, when run, did not have a code option which made my .wps files intelligble. Bob

There is a work-around to enable OpenOffice to open ".wps" files. It can be found on: http://documentation.openoffice.org/HOW_TO/misc/Troubleshooting_guide.html by scrolling down the page or using the link in the index. I can not confirm whether it works or not as I have no ".wks" files to trial it on. -----Original Message----- From: kraigjones2000@yahoo.com Sent: Mon, 17 Mar 2008 14:46:09 -0700 (PDT) To: gen-comp-tips@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] Reader for Microsoft Works Word Processor (.wps) files OpenOffice won't open MS Works files anyway. Sorry, but ".wps" files are text files produced by MS Works. Files with an extension of ".wks" are spreadsheet files, either created by MS Works, or Lotus 1-2-3 version 1A. -----Original Message----- From: robertgillis@verizon.net Sent: Mon, 17 Mar 2008 08:23:43 -0400 To: gen-comp-tips@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] Reader for Microsoft Works Word Processor (.wps) files Your .wps files are spreadsheet files and not word processor, document files. I have quite a number of .WPS files created by Microsoft WORKS Word Processor on my desk PC which I would like to read on my laptop - sadly none of the laptop software will read those files. Is there a Viewer/Reader I can download from somewhere? Bob

There are lots of ways to transfer the images to the new computer. That's not really the issue. The problem is that that the backup disk made by Photoshop Album cannot be restored by the same version of Photoshop Album. That means I cannot depend on being able to backup my PSA catalogs. Since PSA is no longer supported by Adobe, there appears to be no remedy. So, reluctantly, I converted my catalogs to Photoshop Elements 5.0, made a backup and restored them to the new computer. At least now I am using a supported (for now!) program, even if it doesn't have the features I want. Thanks for the suggestion. Help! During the past few weeks I have been unable to install the MS updates and I cannot open Excel and associated programs either. In each case I am told that I need PRO11.MSI which puzzles me. I am told that "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" and I am invited to enter an alternate path to a folder containing PRO11.MSI I do not seem to have PRO11.MSI on my PC. Error 1706 is sometimes mentioned as well. If I had no problems in February, and have made no alterations since, I cannot understand why I suddenly need something that has never been mentioned before. I am running MS Office 2003 and Windows XP Professional. I would be grateful for any your help you can give me. Joan

I see that in my last posting, for some reason the body of my message failed to appear. Perhaps it's due to my ongoing computer problems, but I would just like to thank all the helpful people on this list for their expert advice. It's certainly given me a lot to think about. Mal in W. Australia
