    1. Re: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] GEN-COMP-TIPS Digest, Vol 3, Issue 89
    2. Hello Can someone help shed light on my problem please? I get the error message "MSVCR71.dll was not found, reinstalling may help" when I want to open a program. This appears intermittently and unpredictably - sometimes it comes up and sometimes it does not , even with the same program. It stops me opening the program which is very annoying. The same message appears when I try to open a number of programs, eg it appeared today when I tried to open Picasa, even though I was using Picasa without problem yesterday and when I wanted to alter the volume level on my computer the other day. I have looked on microsoft support and googled the problem and found that .dll refers to dynamic link library but no solution. Thanks

    3. I believe you are referring to a post I made. I add the space when I scan the photos doing that as an over crop of what I want to save beyond just the photo. -----Original Message----- From: gen-comp-tips-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:gen-comp-tips-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of ray risely Sent: Tuesday, March 25, 2008 9:11 AM To: Gen-Comp-Tips@Rootsweb. Com Subject: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] Labelling photos Hi all, I believe there was talk recently about adding space under photos to add descriptive text into. Sounds like a very good way to keep info to me without writing on the photo itself. Well I have tried on several programs, Photoshop 5, Gimp etc but the only program I have that does it simply is good old PhotoImpact 10. How do you add space under the photo in other programs? Increasing canvas size only seems to alter the size of the photo itself. I must be missing something. Any help appreciated. Ray No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG. I never have more that 50 or so e-mails in box at any one > time and I subscribe to anumber of rootsweb list. I've been using e-mail since 1998 - at least that's the earliest e-mail I have. I delete most of that which I receive - keeping only ones from family (fond memories). I backup up every month or so - never archiving since I keep all on the computer. I only keep Rootsweb e-mails for a month or two since I can always look in their archives for the data I need. So - I have less than 1GB of e-mails - certianly small enough to easily backup. One benefit of keeping all family e-mails is that I have a large number from people who have since died. Fond memories are brought to the fore when reading their newsy contents. That all said - I believe that people use the system they find best for them. So - Doug - "good on you". Chris

    2. Chris
    3. Hi, I do not understand. I use XP professional with Outlook as my e-mail client. I also have Outlook Express - but I don't use it for e-mail - it's there in case I can help a relation who does use it. I have set updates to accept all the important ones. They arrive once a month - on a Tuesday if I remember correctly. Often (always?) Microsoft issue an e-mail explaining what the updates will contain. I have never had any problems with this auto-update. There was one occasion where the computer took ages to shutdown since it was installing a large update - and I was in a hurry to leave - but that wasn't the fault of my computer or Microsoft. I can't remember receiving daily updates. I suspect that this is a monthly update that the computer couldn't install and it keeps trying every time you reboot. Have you looked on the Microsoft web-site for guidance? Chris

    3. Hi all, I have my MS updates set to 'notify me' when they are available so I can choose if/when to download & install them. I seem to receive daily a list of MS updates which I install to suit me. However, the next day the list appears to be the same - and the next day etc. My computer asks at shutdown to install the updates & turn itself off. So what's going wrong - are they not installing properly or what else causes the same kb updates to appear all the time. Frustrating. Ray

    3. Hi Bob , Ray and all I am somewhat mystified by your comments I use XP home I have updates set to accept all, they are occasional (perhaps 1 or 2 per month) they generally install with no problem and never have I had changes to anything noticeable and certainly never have I had an attempt to change my set up or swap from OE to Outlook Sadly I cannot tell you the reason your set up is different to mine but perhaps someone can? However if you look at the message source, control U in thunderbird and the same I think in other programs you will find X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.3138. JLB's message source has no X-Mailer so he/she is using web mail. bob gillis
