Try to shut those programs down and see if email returns to normal. -----Original Message----- From: gen-comp-tips-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:gen-comp-tips-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Judy Burns Sent: Sunday, June 15, 2008 5:05 PM To: GEN-COMP-TIPS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] Question regarding Outlook emails I am using Windows XP Home with Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 and use Outlook for email. It would appear that I have made some change in my computer that has resulted in certain emails - Ancestry Weekly Journal, Family Tree Magazine Newsletter, and World Vital Records Newsletter to be received with only links appearing. I am subscribed to numerous publications and am still receiving those in correct format. I haven't made any deliberate changes to Outlook settings. I recently downloaded a new edition of Spybot and also downloaded Spyware Doctor. Can anyone tell me if those two programs might have affected my receipt of certain emails. Sometimes these e-mails asking to be whitelisted are SPAM. I never respond to them unless I know the person. Thank you so much for your helpful reply and the link to the website. On reading it I suspect that I have not configured Thunderbird correctly in the first place and that I also need to follow the instructions for "Outgoing mail settings". Unfortunately I am not going to be able to do this for a bit as life is very hectic and I am also struggling with another problem - my server will not accept attachments, although it has done so without any problems up to now! Life is never simple is it! I just wanted you to know how grateful I am for your reply and to tell you that I will be following it up as soon as time permits. Best wishes, Joan. ----- Original Message ----- From: "tcurtisGen" <tcurtisgen@gmail.com> To: <gen-comp-tips@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 11, 2008 11:14 PM Subject: Re: [GEN-COMP-TIPS] Thunderbird > Joan Smith wrote: >> Have just installed Thunderbird but when I wanted to contact them, >> because >> of a problem in installing a dictionary, I received the following >> >> "The message could not be sent as no sender was specified. Have just installed Thunderbird but when I wanted to contact them, because of a problem in installing a dictionary, I received the following "The message could not be sent as no sender was specified. Thanks for the advice, Mitsy. Mike Mike, right click on the photo & it should have a "move to new folder" or go up to FILE and while the photo(s) are still highlighted use the "Move to new folder" If you already have a folder named along the left You can just drag them there. One of my computers is running Win98 and has a usb 1.0 port. Can I back it up to an external drive which has a usb 2.0 port? Yes, most USB 2 devices will work on a USB 1 port, although at the much, much slower USB 1 rate. (I added a new USB 2 card to my Win 98 computer so I could speed things up a bit.) Alfred D. The Picassa download can used as a standalone program - I am just a "snapper" and the editing it can do suits me perfectly. Hi Paul, Thank you for those links. 'Picnik' does seem to be an excellent site and will clearly do lots of things. I had not heard of 'Click' before and will also definitely look at that site more closely - it could be a mine of information. When I posted my original query, I was actually trying to remove a washing line and its post from an otherwise (well I thought so) lovely picture of my great niece and nephew that I had taken in their back garden. In my haste I had not seen beyond their smiling faces. Using Irfanview, I was able to easily remove the offending washing line and post to leave a really cute picture of the 2 children in a colourful garden with no sign of a washing line or a post! As I stated originally, I am very much an amateur but I like to be able to tinker with photos; I am sure most of the sites people recommended to me would probably have been able to do what I wanted, but Irfanview was easy for me to follow and allowed me to do what I wanted without it getting very complicated. Thanks once again, Lorraine Hello Lorraine About three hours after I posted the message below, another possibility came to my attention. If you go to the website of the splendid BBC television programme "Click", there is a write-up of a program called "Picnik" which seems to be an on-line photo editor. I have downloaded Picassa and it has collected all my photos together. I want to move some of them into different albums. How do I do this? The Help section says: How can I move photos from one web album to another? You can move photos from one web album to another with a few simple steps: 1. Select the photo you'd like to move. 2. Click the "Move to another album" link located on the right side of the page. 3. Create a new album location for your photo, or pick from existing albums by selecting "Choose an existing album." I have selected a photo by left clicking it but there is nothing like 2 above on the right. Mike Berrell
