Yes it is logical. I'll keep trying and keep you posted. If they are having widespread problems it would be nice if they would let the customer know with a general type of automated announcement the way our local electric company does. An estimated time of restoration would be nice too. Dream on, right?? I know what you mean, and some of them act as if they're doing the customer a favor. My last ISP before ATT was a small local company that I had for almost 6 yrs. The owner was always available in person. It broke my heart to lose him but he simply couldn't compete with the "big guys". Wonder why?? Good service maybe. LOL. AT&T is always "Experiencing unusually heavy calls", doesn't matter when you try them. Walt Conner > > Since you are having such a problem contacting AT&T, it might be that > others are having the same problem right now.
I tried clicking on URLS from emails, and I also tried my usual way of clicking on my shortcuts on desktop, and when all that failed I typed them in. Nothing!! Just after I wrote back to you, I tried again several times to get ATT by phone. An automated voice told me to try again later. I got ATT as my ISP end of February. I hope I don't need to change again for lack of support. Changing is a real PIA because I am on a lot of Rootsweb mailing lists, do lots of online shopping, and have scads of friends and relatives that I email regularly. Thanks again. Hi Art, Thanks for the info. No, have not downloaded, installed, or changed settings in a while. It occured to me that maybe it was my ISP and I will check with customer service as soon as I can get thru. ATT has a very bad habit of being unavailable by telephone. The automated voice keeps saying "check online". I will need to persist. To easy for them to do it. Besides, you would get that message all the time! >Yes it is logical. Hi Everyone, I just now subscribed to this list on suggestion of another listowner. Here's my problem: Since last night I have been unable to access the Internet although I have no problem getting my email (Outlook Express) and no problem getting online (att). I use Internet Explorer as my browser, am running Windows 98, and have a Compaq Presario. I have never before had any problems with either my computer or with Windows in the 6 yrs I've had them. I also have a Web Accelerator thru ATT and have turned it off and on several times and have run diagnostics on it also. All seems OK with that. I did a Disk Scan and found no errors. No matter what URL that I try to access, I get a dialog box telling me it's unavailable. I have asked a couple of friends/relatives who use Explorer to check and see if they can get on the Net but they all have "other"computer problems. HELP!!!!! Thanks, Maureen

Hi Mal > I've been emailed a large quantity of pages of text, saved as JPEG images. Is there a quick and easy way to convert these to Word documents? I'm not aware of any easy way to convert them to Word documents. But you can import them into Word via :- Insert - Picture - From file Then select the graphic you want to import. You can then "save as" to create a Word document, and resize, crop and generally play around with it as you see fit. However, to create an editable document from them, you would need to go down the lines of using OCR software. Best wishes. Hi Could SKS please help me with transferring files. I have been transferring files from my main computer to my laptop, but when I have put them on the Laptop I have to change the properties to archive as they go on as read only. How can I fix this so that they go on as archive? Thanks Nardia kntaylor@ozemail.com.au
Hi Will try this later when my son comes home! Thanks for the advice Nora
Thank you, Art, I could indeed deprive myself of a useful facility by simply not using it, but I would still like to know the technical reason. Thanks Art I had tried both suggestions before I posted. The taskbar icons say they are enabled but when I want to go into the in-depth menus nothing happens. When I try to open through programs the screen goes blank and when the desktop returns after a few seconds the colour has gone from blue to black Last week I had a W32.Spybot.worm ----- Original Message ----- From: "dolphin213" <dolphin213@cox.net> To: <GEN-COMP-TIPS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 19, 2004 10:50 PM Subject: Re: [Gen-Comp-Tips] Norton Anti Virus and Personal Firewall 2004 > Try right clicking on the icons. Anthony, >Thank you, Art, I could indeed deprive myself of a useful facility by simply >not using it, but I would still like to know the technical reason. The technical reasons are within Windows programing code. I think you would have to ask a programer at Microsoft. I did a Google search on Windows Standby Mode and got 195,000 responses! If you have the time, you might be able to find the reasons on one of those web pages. Take care, Art
Nardia, If you are transfering by CD, they will all be read-only. But, you can quickly change all the attributes at once to archive if they are in the same folder by selecting them all in a group and clicking on properties and then change to archive. Hope this helps.
