    3. Earthlink does NOT empty the emails from the web site. I've gotten notices that I have almost reached capacity and then I have to go to web mail and delete even the ones that I've read. They stay there until I delete them, and that can mean 400 messages. What may make the difference is that I do use Eudora for my email and not the earthlink mail. 3. I've receved the same advice from programmers and owners of services that take care of large businesses. I do have dialup so I'm not that worried. I use Panda Titanium which updates whenever a new virus is discovered. I don't have to wait until Wednesday as I would have to with Symantec. I've had no problems since I started using Panda. I've also checked for Microsoft Updates as they become available. I only download the critical updates, however. I don't use OE so I have not been downloading those. 3. Pat, In Eudora, check your settings under Tools> Options> Incoming Mail. There are settings there to delete mail off your server. They might not be set properly. 3. Thanks, Art. I didn't know that the email was reset every 24 hrs. That's a good thing to know before I "panic". And, no, these were not spam. Most were from this list and some that I sent to myself as a test from all 3 of my email sites. All bounced!! My Yahoo email had notified me of my own bounces when I checked it this AM and ATT notified me with more "mailbox full" notices last night. Maureen ----- Original Message ----- From: "dolphin213" <dolphin213@cox.net> To: <GEN-COMP-TIPS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 15, 2004 3:55 PM Subject: Re: [Gen-Comp-Tips] Full Mailbox Maureen, >An odd thing happened to me late last night. This happens to me once in awhile (cox.net) also. Most of the time the messages are really SPAM, if you take the time to fully read them. They are actually addressed to someone else and sent to you as I'm sure you've noticed SPAM often is. :) I did have one instance where I had a bunch of messages with attachments that I had sent out that bounced. This cause my web based email account with them to fill up. I had to go to the web page and delete the messages that bounced. I don't know if your ISP offers this feature or not. In any regard, the ISP resets your mail account every 24 hours (or at least they should). That is why the problem seems to have cleared up itself. I wouldn't really worry about it unless it starts happening on a regular basis. If this is the case, then contact your ISP for directions. Hope this helps? My Yahoo >email had notified me of my own bounces when I checked it this AM and ATT >notified me with more "mailbox full" notices last night. Let me try and answer the next question I'm going to get before I get it about this ISP reset feature. The question would be, if I don't check my mail every 24 hours, am I going to lose my messages? The answer is no. The system is set up to delete messages that you have received (downloaded) from your mail account, as they are downloaded. This automatic feature prevents your mail box from filling up on the server. Unfortunately, bounces are marked as unread mail. Most ISP's allow you a minimum of 5MB of mail box space. This would be a LOT of text messages. The problem only arises, usually, when there are attachments involved. Then the mail box could fill quite rapidly. Hope this is of some help? Art

For >what it's >worth------------ >Jean in CA While I hate to disagree with your instructor, if you go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. Scroll down the list towards the bottom, look for Windows XP Hotfix. You should see that there are several SP2 patches already installed. This is of course if your computer is kept up-to-date. Microsoft originally planned to release this SP in the spring. It has undergone several changes since that time. The fact that most of the updates evolve security, those people with broadband connections should not wait. People on dial-up service "may" be able to wait as they are not as vulnerable to attacks. I have seen warnings about each and every Service Pack that Microsoft has ever put out. Some, if not all, are put out by the very people that would like to get into your system. If there are so many problems with it, as I've heard on various lists, could you tell me why every major computer magazine in the US is recommending that you do not delay with the installation? Just my thoughts and opinion. Art
