Pat With Win98, Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel. Double click on System. Click on the Device Manager tab. On the listing you should see CD-ROM with a + next to it. Click on the +. There you will see a list of the CD drives installed. If you see two, highlight them one at a time and press the Remove button on the bottom. After they have both been removed, Close everything down and reboot. Windows will re-install the CD as new hardware when it restarts. Art

    3. Two ways to do this Patricia: One, by clicking on the Control Panel | System | Properties, then clicking Turn Off Automatic Updates. Two, by clicking Control Panel | System | Administrative Tools | Services, then selecting Automatic Updates. In Automatic Updates, under Startup Type, right click Automatic, select Properties from the context menu and change the setting (in Startup Type) to Manual. Click OK. This is the more reliable way, incidentally. 3. Sounds logical and a good "guess" :-). Perhaps someone on "dial-up" may be able to relate what happens when the time comes, to help other "dial-up" users understand the process. 3. What you have to bear in mind, Janet, is that it will be a 75 MB+ download, something that would probably strain the limits of your "dial-up" connection. I would suggest you turn off "auto" and check downloads manually for the next few weeks (until the CD is available). That way, you won't tie-up your computer while it struggles with a massive download. Manual download will also show the "SP2" but don't select it - wait for the CD. Chances are that if you attempt a download (on dial-up) the download could be interrupted and this may result in a faulty result. 3. I don't have XP. I am still using W ME ,on my computer, but do have a dial up connection and some updates get stopped when the connection breaks, which has been a lot lately especiall early in the morning about this time for some reason, some will restart from the first and some will pick up where they left off, and I can't tell you which. After reading all the emails about XP , I am wondering if I will ever change from ME, I know that there is going to be a time when I won't be able to use all the programs, but maybe what I use , I will still be able to use on ME, I am a home user, and about all I use my computer for now is email and recording my genealogy, and use the search engines to" window"shop for things I am condidering buying . Right now I am not even keeping my finances on it, Like a lot of people I learn to use the programs I use the most and that is all, I don't care what makes it work, I just want it to work when I need it. and I try to keep it very clean and up todate.
