    3. Good Morning, Problems with computers and printer occur at the most inconvenient moments. While in the midst of printing out a booklet containing about 26-30 pages, the printer ran out of ink. It is a Dell printer ( and also computer) and the cartridge must come from them. Since, I need another printer for my HP computer, I think the solution is to Wal-Mart buy another printer and put it on the Del Computer temporarily to finish the project. The project needs to be finished tomorrow morning. Please advise if it would be possible to use a HP or another brand printer with a Dell computer or must it be a Dell. Not to fret, I am still using Win98SE; and have no plans to upgrade. When the day finally comes that the owners of my main software programs stop supporting their systems on 98SE, I will reluctantly have to take another look at the situation. 1. Re: [Gen-Comp-Tips] Can't open some folders
    2. Hi Martyn > I have a large number of photos, including hundreds of family history photos, stored in various folders. I am unable to open some (not all) of these folders as when I try, after a pause of a few seconds I get a window displaying the following message: Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. When I close this window I get back to the desktop and sometimes but not always the desktop is on a white background and I am invited to "restore my active desktop" by clicking on this button. Are you running Adobe Photoshop Elements on your system ? If so, this problem arises because that programme has a default setting to create thumbnails of images, whereas XP doesn't like this. Right click on any image file on your hard drive using Windows Explorer. Then click on "Properties" from the drop down list. Then click on the "Photoshop Image" tab. Then uncheck the "Generate Thumbnails" box. There a bit about this procedure on the Microsoft Knowedgebase, which was how I solved this when I had the same problem. Best wishes. 3. I think most people are concerned, as indeed am I, at problems with upgrading from other Window applications to XP and finding older version programmes won't immediately run. I have no problems with XP itself For those of us who are nearer 70 than 17 it can be quite daunting to carry out procedures when not conversant with computer jargon. For those who remember my traumas of a few days ago re; UFT and XP I have managed to retrieve data from various backups and even my old computer (my son did that bit!) and now have it installed on a laptop. I am now in the position of turning the data into GEDCOM ready for transfer to the main computer when I have a programme. To all who tried to assist this computer simpleton may I say a huge thankyou.
