Any advice on how to continue? I'm afraid you did miss something during the installation. After the reboot, when the Security Center comes up, you should have turned off the MS firewall and Anti-virus notifications. Doing this would allow your third party applications to function as they did before the update. I do believe your system has now become unstable and prone to crash. As a fix, here is what I would do. Reinstall the SP2 (yes, I know it's a headache as it takes awhile). When it reboots and the Security Center comes up, turn OFF the firewall and anti-virus notifications before continuing. After that, things should be fine. Art

    3. Art, Downloaded and installed the SP2 upgrade. The setup decided that I did not have a firewall or virus protection, I have both ,and proceeded to install another firewall without permission. This new firewall blocked access to and from my mail server which was not restored after turning it off. I got my mail back by doing a system restore to yesterday, but I am now getting messages that files that are important for system stability have been replaced by unrecognized files. Did I miss something in the installation? Any advice on how to continue? Regards Peter

    3. Art, All the articles I've read suggest that you wait while all to bugs are being worked out before installing SP2. I suggest that you restore your computer prior to the time you downloaded SP2 and wait for others to figure out all of these problems. 3. Hello Mal and Listers I have the same problem, coupled with the fact that they don't recognise my email address when I try to sign in on that home page - the address they sent the email to! It happened a while ago and I've just checked and it happened again. This time I have contacted them by using the link at the bottom of the email: http://www.friendsreunited.co.uk/support.asp . That takes you to a list of FAQs and I have sent for password confirmation and, using the question: "I have registered but can't get back into the site..." I've emailed them and told them about my problem accessing my schools directly. Bit of a long routine for us busy people! Regards Jan Marchant Sydney

    2. Art, You mentioned in your response to my question about memory problems that "NOTE:   BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU CHOSE TO STOP FROM STARTING.   Many of those are system files that need to be running!" Can you give me some tips to know what kinds of things are important? I know systray is important on my 98 machine. What others? What should I definitely keep on my xp machine? Where can I find out such trivia? How do you know it? Thanks, Lisa upstate NY

    3. I downloaded it last night too, on a Dell Dimension 8250. So far, running smoothly. I did add some sites to be allowed in the Firewall. It took a long time to install, seems like longer than it took to download. I have DirecPC satellite, so downloads are faster than dialup. I have ordered the CD for my laptop though. The instructions are telling me that I need to sit in attendance while it is downloading, (in the background),and answering any questions, etc. My Dial-Up Provider has added on a new dial-up add-on for $5.00 more a month, and I subscribed, and the difference it has made is unbelievable, so this will make the download much easier. Microsoft is telling me that I need to backup my programs, etc. I backed up my computer when I purchased it 3 months ago, etc. Question: Is it time to do this? Should I wait? Please respond. I found their homepage but couldn't see any email address to contact them re this problem. And when I tried replying to the message I had received from them, I got the 'message undeliverable' back. Would appreciate an email address for them. Mal, W. Australia

To top it all i also use AOL's own spyware protector. Would be grateful if anyone can tell me if any of the above conflicts with each other and i should remove any of them. Robin
