    3. I can't tell you the proper size, that depends on how the graphic is going to be used. But, I can suggest that you try studying this site for some valuable pointers on photo size/resolution for various purposes. http://www.scantips.com/ There are some offers for software there, it isn't really a commercial site, but it has links to some good deals in software. I think that one of the best deals for a graphics program that will do a lot of manipulating your graphics files is found at: http://www.irfanview.com/ IrfanView is a free viewer which does resizing and so much more. 3. Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me. My CD drive (G:) in my computer has given up the ghost, but for now, (due to lack of funds) I'm not going to do anything about it as I also have a DVD Drive, (F:) which I can use instead. HOWEVER.... When I am trying to use the LDS 1881 Census, it looks for the data disks in drive G: and I don't know how to get it to read from Drive F:, assuming this is possible. Can anyone tell me how to do this, please ? Yours hopefully Eunice Cubbage

    3. Ken, Personally I like things as they are. I try to read through all messages and replies whether or not they are relevant to me at the time. I hope that by doing so, something might penetrate the old grey matter and build up a store of knowledge for future use. Maybe even help me to help someone else in the future. Excellent & very useful list, keep up the good work everyone ! 3. Charles, >Can someone suggest the ideal size to send photographs as attachments and >give me any problems that occur if they are too small? Your question is really difficult to answer. There really is no "ideal size". Generally, you would want a photo to be less than a MB in size. Different formats of a graphic file (which a photo is) would cause the file to be different sizes. So it would depend on the format used. The second part of your question is a little easier to answer. If it is to small, then the recipient must use a graphic program to zoom in on the picture to be able to see it. As a photo is enlarged, distortion is easier to see and the picture starts to show blocks. Hope this helps. Art

    2. dolphin213
    3. Ken, I started this thread due to a post you had made on 28 Aug 2004. In that letter to the list you stated <quote> If at all possible, if you are thanking someone for their assistance please send the thanks privately to their e-mail address. It is important to thank the people who assist us but not necessary to send to the entire list. <unquote> Of the 400+ list members, I would venture a guess that a lot of them are novices. I was trying to help them comply with this by offering a possible solution. Many novices to not know how to tell the address of who answered the letter, and thus reply to the list. While it is easy for someone who knows how to change the TO address, if you don't know, it could be confusing. I do know that this is being done on other RootsWeb lists and thought it would be good for the list. I thank you for you kind words. They are appreciated. Art

    1. Reply To List or Individuals
    2. Ken and Art, As you can see, I am on Aol, and I have never used the "reply to all" choice before this discussion came up. When I did try "reply to all" both the GEN-COMP-TIPS-L, and the Digest mode came up in my "send to" box. Any time I have only wanted to send a note, or a thank you to someone that has posted something I was interested in, and not to the list, I just copy and paste their email address from their post, and put it in the "send to" box. Just my thoughts, Nancy O.

    3. Art, As a test, I hit "Reply to all" (OE v6.00.2800.1133) and the address of the list came up twice. So I logged on to the Admin page to investigate our options. The list is setup as "Replies should go back to the list by default". If I unselect this option, then the replies go to the individuals by default. Given that this is a helpful list for many people and many of the seasoned veterans like yourself assist the less seasoned people, I am hesitant to switch what is already in place for fear that some really helpful information, from yourself for example, will be missed by the masses. I don't think we have to go through too many hoops to reply off-list. I think it's as easy to change the "to" address in a message as it is to delete the list address. I'm certainly open to hearing from other list members on this topic. > > If this is desirable, could you please change the list settings so that > when the reply all button is pressed the address it shows both the list and > the person who sent the message? 3. I like the list as it is, with replies automatically going to the list. I don't mind seeing an occasional "thanks" on the list. What I don't like to see is when someone sends several messages, thanking a different individual in each message, rather than thanking all in one message. (I may not have seen that on this list, but on some other list that replies automatically to the list.) It isn't too difficult to reply to an individual, but for the newbies who haven't figured it out yet, it's fine by me to see it on the list. 3. I am wanting to utilize my Clip Art Gallery to set up my Scrapbook for the Genealogy information that I have accumulated. I went in to open a certain art clip in the Microsoft Word/Works, Version 7, Clip Art Gallery, and I was told that I needed to insert my "CD" in order to download the clip art. I have no Windows XP - CD. Within my Tower, Drive D, I have 5 CD's stored which has the complete Windows XP program. I can not get the Clip Art Gallery to download to the program. Please, can someone tell me the proper way to do this. I tried to obtain the information from Windows & Compaq, and could not find the answer. I am putting all of my Genealogy information, charts, etc. into a scrapbook. Within the Clip Art Gallery there is an area such as page templates, etc. Thanks! Janet
