    3. Have used MrSid with ME and XP pro with no problems. Have not been able to use MrSid since I got the SP2 update. Not able to say for sure it is the SP2 update that caused the problem as also updated my antivirus and Spy blockers. Did not have need to look at 1850 census until now and find the problem. Maybe someone that hasn't installed SP2 yet will test Mr Sid before and after installing it. Then we will know more. Peggy

    3. I do not understand the list of compatible operating systems with the exclusion of XP. I have Windows XP -until downloading and installing SP 1&2 I had no problems using MrSid with any of the census images on Ancestry. After installation of SP 1 & 2 the images would download-blurred to the degree they could not be read and MrSID features would not work. I could switch to HTML viewer without any problems. My Nortonantivirsus subscription was up for renewal,. I renewed with an upgrade to Norton 2005. Now I am unable to download the census images using MrSID. I receive an error message and am unable to go to HTML. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have not visited with anyone from Microsoft or Norton about the problem.

    3. Following are the System Requirements for the MrSID viewer, created by LizardTech.com. Compatible Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows 95 Microsoft Windows 98 Microsoft Windows 2000 Macintosh Operating System 9.x Compatible Processors: 200 MHz PC processor (or faster) Apple G3 or later Compatible Internet Browsers: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher Netscape Navigator 4.7x At this time the MrSID viewer will not function with the Netscape 6 or 7 Internet browsers. It is also not fully tested and supported for Windows Millennium (ME) or XP. Macintosh OS X or those lower than 9.0 will also be incompatible with this viewer. While MrSID may function with these settings, if you experience errors there are no current fixes available. Thank you for your patience. You will still be able to fully access the Census Images Online using the HTML Viewer. We are currently working on other viewing options in an effort to improve our services. Please note that the MrSID plug-in viewer was created by LizardTech.com and is offered only as an additional viewing option for the 1790-1920 census images. Ancestry.com cannot guarantee that the MrSID viewer will properly function with your specific Internet browser and/or operating system. You should always be able to fully access the Census Images Online using the HTML Viewer that was created by Ancestry.com to be compatible with all systems. To switch from the MrSID viewer to the HTML viewer simply click on the "View This Image With The HTML Viewer" link that is located below any census image. On the later Census Years, e.g. 1930, download the Advanced Image. It will work fine. Janet

    3. I have a Canon i560 printer, it's a sort of middle of the range model, and I've been quite pleased with it so far. However, one thing I can't seem to get it to do is to print a selection of a document. When the Print box comes up on the screen the 'print selection' button is faint and can't be activated. I assumed that there would be a box somewhere to tick to activate this, and although I've searched I can't find it. Any advice will be much appreciated. Mal, W. Oz

    3. Hi Listers, I have Works Suite 2001 and have a problem in the Word files. What I need to get rid of for good I am told is a file in "C" drive named "normal.dot". I know when this file is starting to cause trouble as it can crash my computer, it can freeze my computer, it can make my modem ping when I hit a key, it can turn in a keystroke the file I am using into a "read only file" & the only way I can work on this file is to search for the dreaded file & delete it, if it will let me.It can also control my mouse. Deleting it is only a temp measure as it continually re-appears, I have even had 3 of these files sitting at one time in my "rubbish" file. Any suggestions. Barbara

    3. Barbara, The normal.dot file is a Word template file. I holds all the formatting information for Word to create a document. It is a needed file for Word to work. The file increases and decreases in size to suit the formatting. As you have found out, anytime it is deleted, it will be re-created when Word is next used. The problems you seem to be having seem to be more than just normal. Have you ran a FULL virus scan? Are your virus files up-to-date? You maybe infected with a "macro" virus. Also check that the Word version is up-to-date. Have you installed all patches and updates for it? It is Word 2000, in the version of Works that you have. As a last resort, re-install the Works program. Hope this helps. 3. What browser are you using? Do you have this problem in all of Internet Explorer, Netscape, and Opera. What census years? Some years (1920) use MrSID viewer, others (1880, 1930) use the HTML viewer. If you have an Ancestry.com subscription, call or Email their customer service. Find out if they know about incompatibilities with SP2. Then post the result here. <rant on> If you are using Internet Explorer, I'd suggest trying a different browser. My Opera post yesterday explains how to tweak Opera to use MrSID. I flubbed that a little. The two files are NPMrSID.dll and NPMrSID.ini. I gave up Internet Explorer years ago, when Netscape 1.0 was released. IE was too slow and too much work to do simple things. There was a lot of discussion on the Opera forums (http://my.opera.com/forums/) about SP2. Seemed like a mixed bag. Several weird problems mentioned. <rant off> Jim Raehl Bluffroad1@aol.com wrote: > I received the new SP2 disk and installed it okay. 1. Microsoft SP2
    2. I received the new SP2 disk and installed it okay. Everything appeared to work okay until I tried to pull up census records from Ancestry.com. I was not allowed to access the actual census records although everything worked up until the actual census record should have displayed. I checked my settings to see if I should turn off some blocking process but could not identify anything. I lowered my security setting to med low but this did not work either. Need help. Another item is that when I run Norton to check for any problems I get a consistent error message that there is a missing program component "mscoree.dll" and Norton says it fixes the problem but the next time I check for problems with windows, the same problem is there. Any help appreciated. Sadie

    3. Normal.dot is the template for normal documents that you create in Word. You will need it. But you may have accidentally edited it so that it is all messed up and causing you problems. You should be able to reinstall Word and get a new, working Normal.dot file that way. You should find quite a bit in the Word help files if you search for "Template" Alfred D. If you highlight a sleection and do "control +P" you will get the selection option, or at least that's how it works for me. Sharyn
