    3. Walt, Seems your going to fast and trying to do to many at one time. Your hitting Copy instead of delete. Slow down and be careful. This happens to me sometimes, at it usually means I'm going to fast. :) Art >I have been trying to delete selected cookies saving the ones I recognize as >sites I frequent, genealogy for example. 3. Dear Loudene, The same thing happened to me. I am still very upset over it. I gave information to a distant cousin who sent it to someone else and it has ended up on the Internet. Not only Genealogical data but other information as well. Also I may have to have Major surgery soon and when I told another distant cousin he immediately emailed me asking for access to all my files if I don't survive. How do you reckon that made me feel? Marie

The more I delete, the more there seems to be like they are multiplying themselves? With "copy 12" and such appearing? 3. Thanks, Peggy. When my cookies get deleted and I go back to my online stores, telephone companies, etc they all tell me to re-register. 3. NY State sells driver's license info too. My ex husband was a victim of stolen identity in 2002. His bank was the culprit. He doesn't own a computer. Whoever shared your personal genealogy info online had nothing to do with cookies. It happens a lot according to things I've read on some of my Rootsweb Lists. Maureen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Loudene Tollar" <ludiekt@juno.com> To: <GEN-COMP-TIPS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 06, 2004 9:10 PM Subject: Re: [Gen-Comp-Tips] Norton Systemworks Maureen, Knew comer here. I also do genealogy and it has upset me that someone I shared personal family information has now posted that information on several websites. You basically asked what harm it can do to have your information tracked on the internet. Apparently you haven't seen any of the programs on tv news shows or read any articles in magazines and newspapers of the people who have had their identity stolen and have lost many thousands of dollars and spent years trying to straighten out the mess and get their identity back. I don't want to be one of those persons. Saying that, I understand it's easy enough to get personal information when much of it is sold and put online. The state of Texas sells list of drivers license information! But I sure don't want to help someone by giving them more information to work with. You might want to do some online searching on stolen identities. 3. Maureen, Knew comer here. 3. Thanks Sue. However in the 6+ yrs that I've been online I've never had a problem or a virus. I don't really mind if I'm "tracked" either. Fact is if I plug in my name on Google I'll find many references to myself in the Rootsweb archives for all to see, including this list. Try it with your name and see what comes up. I find lots of people that way and "track" them. That's part of online genealogy. If you need cookies for catalog companies and stores, then save those. Delete the ones you don't need. Lots of cookies can also hinder performance on a computer. I have a friend that works for one of the satellite companies. He told me not accept all the cookies, some carry viruses and trackers. He set my IE up so that I can choose which cookies to allow and which ones not to allow. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Maureen S Cassidy" <maureen.s.cassidy@worldnet.att.net> To: <GEN-COMP-TIPS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 06, 2004 10:23 AM Subject: Re: [Gen-Comp-Tips] Norton Systemworks >I have found it a very poor idea to delete cookies. > > I do a lot of online shopping with my "regular" catalog companies and dept > stores, eg Home Depot , LNT, etc. as well as monthly statement viewing of > phone bill, electric bill, et al.
