    3. Unfortunately, the bots are smarter than that. They can interpret "AT", "at" and hundreds of variations just as easily as they can read "@". The most we can hope for is an email filter that keeps up with the spammers. 3. The addition of practically anything in the middle of an e-mail address works. What alot of people do is substitute something else for the @ sign - even the word at. It's best to use something people looking at the e-mail address will be able to discern that itis an e-mail address and know what to change to convert it into a working e-mail address. 3. Hi list, I need some tips on how to place an email address on a web page that cannot be picked up by spamers --does the addition of no spam in the middle of the address really work? Any ideas appreciated as I have been paying an additional server for that purpose to keep the junk off my bellsouth address but not getting enough hits right now to merit it. I have seen like [email protected] and then the writer is suppose to know to delete the no spam out of middle and thats how to send it?? Does it work?? Kay

I did a search using this reference. Found a number of people around-the-world were have the same problem. Several corrected the problem by adding another server file but not activating it. Can figure how this would help is if it were not an active file. One people simply removed the program from the control - add/remove section and reinstalled the Windows Defender. So I figured that would be an easy fix. Then I noted that the last time Windows Defender was used on my PC was July 9, this year. So I decided to not reinstall the file. Have I done a no - no? I also got to thinking I am using other programs to do the same things this defender does. Could these programs be fighting? It would explain all the delays and hang-ups I have had over the past few months. John in California

Are there any good "helps" for those of us new to XP? 3. This happens to me when the connection to my ISP - Roadrunner - cuts out. If the server is unstable that can happen so often you'll download your mail 20 times before you get it all once. If it's connecting at all then the problem is probably not at your end. See if your ISP offers webmail; if it does, you can go in through your browser and trim your mail. That may help. 3. Hello Jane Go to your mail online. www.bellsouth.net over to the top left is tour and under that is home, e-mail etc. click on e-mail and sign in. See if you have any extra large mails or strange e-mails. I have had it do this with no obvious reason. Just delete the mail from there and then it should work. So when I am not using the computer, but it is on standby during the daytime, I should have the hard drives set to turn off after twenty or so minutes of non-use? Thank you for your time. I waited until late in life to learn to use a computer, but am pleased to note that folks on this list have been patient and helpful.
