    2. Tom Young
    3. Hello to all, This is my first post here, but assume this to be on-topic: I recently came across an article (22 Dec 1997 "US News & World Report") concerning forthcoming (or current) DNA tests to determine the validity of claims by the descendants of Thomas Woodson that he was the son of Thomas Jefferson and slave, Sally Hemings. This would seem to be be very big news, but I've seen no discussion whatsoever on any of the newsgroups-mailing lists. The exhuming & DNA testing of Jesse James' remains created a thread of 66 messages on soc.genealogy.misc. Could someone enlighten me about the seeming lack of interest in this matter? Thanks in advance. Tom Young <teyoung@i1.net>

Funeral Programs are very different from most Newspaper obituaries which give the Researcher/Historian very minimal information. Funeral Programs are mini Genealogies. Funeral Programs are not always 100% accurate. http://www.angelfire.com/md/FUNERALPROGRAMSUSA Valerie Vaughn http://www.angelfire.com/md/genealogysforme HELP I AM TRAPPED IN GENEALOGY LAND !!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Slave Trade Conference
    2. Amy Ruth
    3. Greetings: I am promoting a conference at the College of William and Mary (September 11-13), "Transatlantic Slaving and the African Diaspora," which I think would be of interest to your subscribers, particularly since the conference marks the publication of a CD-ROM database-the culmination of a 30-year, international research effort-containing information about two-thirds to three-quarters of all transatlantic slave voyages attempted between the late-sixteenth and mid-nineteenth centuries. The database will allow historians and others to explore critical themes raised by the new data-including African resistance, shipboard experiences, and age and gender structure of the slave traffic-and provides a major tool in improving our understanding of the African Diaspora and Atlantic history. The conference website is: http://www.oieahc.h-net.msu.edu/slavecon.html While I wanted to alert your subscribers to the conference, I hope they can help me by recommending names of newspaper and magazine reporters who cover African-American history and culture and would be interested in covering the conference. Thank you. Amy Ruth University Relations The College of William and Mary Williamsburg, Virginia 23185 757-221-2628-phone 757-221-1021-fax akruth@facstaff.wm.edu

    1. Kath/Kate nee DALY? or m.VANRIJN,snds like VANRAN
    2. Kathleen aka Kate DALY? gave birth to my mother in Melbourne, Australia, Nov 1912. She called her baby Beatrice Mary DALY and had her baptised as a RC. She then had her "adopted" out to the STEVENS family in Melbourne. Kath was listed as 22 years of age, b c1889 and born Gympie, Queensland. Subsequently a woman used to visit the STEVENS family and c1918 wanted to take the child away with her to South Africa? My mother believes this woman may have been her mother or a relative, who went under the name of Mrs (VANRAN...sounds like.) She left a photo with the STEVENS' & you can see this photo which was taken in Melbourne c1920. Do you know this lady? Does she belong to your family? Does she bear a different name? Different dates...who knows? See her @ http://www.alpha.com.au/teamalpha/genealogy.html Urgent help needed as Mum is now 85 years old & we'd like to establish a link to her Birth Mother.
