Case: 3 Jun 1812 Joseph Lyon, Plaintiff, and Susanah Dockers, Defendant. Complaint: Joseph Lyon claimed Susannah Dockers took from him a pair of cotton socks which he had left in her possession. Everyone took oaths William Dickinson, late JP of Jefferson Co. Jefferson Twp., was a witness for defendant. Jurors had to decide if a certain pair of cotton socks in white that a certain John Kyger, then lately deceased,, was buried were the property of Joseph Lyon. It gets confusing, but they try to describe the socks (Were they entirely white or white with a blue shot. Then I had to leave before getting the verdict. I love the story -- even without a conclusion. The real question: Which John Kyger went to his grave in white socks perhaps with blue shots that may have belonged to someone else?
