    1. [GEIGER-L] Geigers and Kuhns--Daniel Geiger
    2. I thought although this reply I got from Richard Koontz to the posting about Daniel Geiger imprisoned for stealing a horse primarily involves the Kuhns surname I thought you might want to see what Richard had to say on the subject of this family. I remember wondering about this lady when we were in these solid vaults in Ottumwa, IA with a raging lighting and hailstorm outside. If my memory (and naturally, my writings are in a box somewhere) is correct, Mary Ann KUHNS maried somebody in Wapello County, IA which is also the home town of my KOONTZ / KOUNTZ ancestors. The town of DAHLONEGA, located a few short miles northeast of Ottumwa, was the home of KOONTZ, WOOD, RUFNER, and KITTERMAN families. The town of EDDYVILLE, located upriver ten or fifteen miles from Ottumwa, was another cluster of KOONTZs that I have not placed. That cluster, and the one in Dahlonega, all moved from GALLIA COUNTY OHIO, near Gallipolis (southeast corner of the state) in the 1843-44 timeframe. Another clan was located in ELDON, also in the area. The Dahlonega clans all moved to Oregon in 1852. What puzzles me is that there were two KUHNS children living with members of our clan. I wondered then, and I wonder now, if there is a relation here worth investigating. I'll contact Eleanor and Teresa. KOONTZ, KOONS, KUHN, and KUHNS were all well represented down there. But HEY! Did you know that in the 1870 timeframe, that Ottumwa was about the largest town west of Chicago, and had more occupants than Los Angeles? > >The above request was posted on the Westmoreland site in February.
