Kay - It sounds like there are a great many people who have you in their thoughts and prayers. Know that we are out here hoping for the best for you. Please take care. I'm Kay and I live in Geneva, FL. Our road goes right on to SR 46 and SR46 goes to Mims, FL and I-95. The fires are raging everywhere. Three young boys started a new on not too long ago in Orange Co. That has become a major fire, closing two major highways. These fires are leaping highways, going over barriers. Just doesn't make sense. Someone reported watching a person flip a cigarette out the window as he was driving down the highway. We have had no rain for so long, and to think that someone, whether tourist or resident would do something like that. There are more evacuations call for and of course they will come right by our road. Its so sad. The smoke is terrible. Remember us in your prayers, and ask God to send a week of very gentle rain to stop these fires. That's what it will take. These pine trees have layer after layer after layer of pine needles. Some of the hot spots are 12 to 14" deep. They restart constantly. Take care, Kay in Central Florida PS: These firefighters are from 38 states. They are to be praised. I hope that all of you will remember the firefighters in your community at special occasions. You never really appreciate them until we have a disaster such as this...we just see them sitting outside enjoying the day. What I would give to see them 'sit' once more and gladly vote for pay increases for each one. They have served the people of Florida above and beyond the call of duty. These residents have fallen in love with your firefighters, America! There are 10 tankers trying toput out fires, plus the helicopters hauling water from various lakes. Those pilots and any worker who is helping gets lots of love and affection from these people... and us, too. ********** >Just joined this group.......could you please tell me who Kay is????? > >I, too, live in Florida....Orlando....and would like to know if we are >related.....since my paternal grandmother was a Geiger. > >Mary Phillips >Orlando, FL > >Update: Fires have spread to Christmas, FL now.
