    1. Re: [GEIGER-L] Benjamin Geiger
    2. In a message dated 98-07-21 21:29:12 EDT, you write: > I noticed that Benjamin and Catharina Geiger had three children baptized in > First Lutheran Church, Greensburg, PA, on 22 or 28 Sep 1811. This sounds > like a newly arrived family. Even though Benjamin Geiger may have made a > land purchase in 1806, he may not have moved his family to Westmoreland > County until 1811. This would explain his absence from the 1810 census. > Dave, well--it would be nice if I could find this Benjamin somewhere in 1810 and even in 1800, and I have looked just about everywhere I can think of--we know he was in Dauphin County (North Annville which is now in Lebanon County) in 1798 having son John baptized. Then he doesn't show up on any census in PA until 1820. The only Benjamin is a Benjamin Geyer in Germantown, Phila. Co. that you and I have discussed before. So that is why I believe Benjamin Geiger must be living in a household with someone else in 1800 and 1810 no matter where that might be. I said before that I thought it had to be another Geiger who was head of household but I am not sure that is true in 1800 and 1810--I think it would only be 1850 on when someone with a different surname would be listed in census indexes even if they were not head of household. So Eleanor's thoughts about the family living with in-laws could well be true. Thanks for you help. At least we can rule a Benjamin Geyer out of the equation. Joan
