    1. [GEIGER-L] Stokes County, NC Geiger/Kiger
    2. I received a letter in the mail yesterday from someone researching their Kiger ancestors. The person they are asking about it totally unknown to me and I wondered whether anyone on the list was familiar with this Kiger from Stokes County, NC. The person is asking about a Sally (Sarah I presume) Kiger/Geiger who they state was born in 1787 in Stokes County and who married someone by the name of Harmon/Hermonnis Kiser in 1808. As far as I know the ONLY Geigers or Kigers in Stokes County in 1787 were the family of Johann Adam Geiger and Maria Margaretha Fiedler. The children of this family as I know them are: Mary Elizabeth Geiger (presumed daughter) born 1765 Johann Adam Geiger, Jr. baptized March 8, 1767 Anna Christina Geiger born September 20, 1769 Jacob Geiger born January 1, 1775 Maria Catharina Gieger born April 9, 1777 Johann Peter Geiger born January 15, 1780 Georg Geiger born February 12, 1782 Henry Geiger born ??? Gertraudt born ??? I have checked the census indexes and find ONLY ONE Geiger (of any spelling) on the 1790 census-Adam Geiger with 2 males 16 and over, and 4 males under 16, and 4 females. This would mean that Adam and his wife had 5 sons and 3 daughters living at home in 1790. It is likely that the presumed daughter Mary Elizabeth was already married by this time and not living with her parents, which would leave the 3 daughters we already know about--Christina, Catharina, and Gertraudt. So who is this Sarah and where did she come from? There is no question that at least one Kiger married a Kiser but this was in 1854 when Elizabeth Kiger married John H. Kiser in Stokes County. Since I have the Stokes County marriage bonds and there is no other Geiger/Kiger married to a Kiser I have to wonder where the information came from about Sarah Kiger marrying Harmon Kiser. Has anyone ever heard of either or them? I am wondering if the dates are off by quite a bit and this Elizabeth who married John H. Kiser might be the ones this person is looking for--the H. could stand for Harmon. Joan
