Susan, I don't know if this will help in any way or not but I have the 1860 census index for Geigers in NY (I know your Geigers didn't arrive until 1867) but it may help to know where Joseph Geigers were in NY prior to your Joseph coming here to help you find where the new arrival fits in for 1870. There are only 2 Joseph Geigers in all of NY state on the 1860 census: One in Kings County, NY in 16 W. Brooklyn 3D on page 724 of the census record. Living in the same district were several Geyers but no other Geigers. The second Joseph Geiger spells his name Giger on this record and is located in Rensselaer Co. in 2 W. Troy on page 108 of the record. Perhaps it will help to weed out the ones who are NOT the one you are looking for if they are still present in 1870 records. Joan
