    2. In a message dated 98-06-27 16:19:50 EDT, you write: > I was going to answer your other post, but will do it here. Verda and > James had a child born in 1933, so I guess we could "guesstimate" that > they were married around 1932/33. I don't know where the name Leota came > from right now, but I'll make inquiries and let you know. You can see > that it was passed on in the family. Kay, I would guess then that the list Maggie found at the FTM website was listing birthdates then and not marriage dates--perhaps that is true for all the entries she listed. The name Leota (which I find unusual unless it is a surname from somewhere way back--it sounds Italian but COULD be Swiss or French) appears in the Greene County, PA Kiger family when Sarah Leota Kiger was born 21 March 1875 to Benjamin F. Kiger and his wife Casandra A. Thomas. Also Charles Evan Kiger and his second wife Catherine C. Connor had a daughter Bertha Leone Kiger born in 1882--very similar and perhaps a misspelling of Leota--she died young and all I have to go by is her tombstone. Charles Evan Kiger and Benjamin F. Kiger are first cousins--grandsons of Charles Kiger the progenitor of the Greene County Kiger family. Notice also that one of these Kigers above intermarried with a Connor. I believe that George Kiger (born about 1803), son of Fielding Kiger (born about 1787) of Monongalia County, VA (WV) also married a Connor. The Greene County Kigers tell me that the descendants of Fielding Kiger have long been a part of their family reunions--but the relationship has been forgotten. Add to that the fact that Fielding Kiger's wife Polly Madeira (born in Berks County, PA) had a sister Elizabeth who married Capt. Zackquill Morgan of Morgantown, WV. Kay, didn't one or more of YOUR Kygers marry into the Morgantown Morgans? I don't have too much trouble now separating the two Daniel Kygers. One Daniel (originally born Benjamin) was born in 1772 and married Anne Teagarden in Hampshire County, now WV and moved to Butler County, Ohio. We have their descendants and also his ancestors going back to John Georg Geiger and Maria Catharina Henckel. The other Daniel (yours) was born in 1762 and married in Monongalia County, now WV to Anna Henthorne I think in the 1790s if memory serves me right. They moved to Monroe County, Ohio and later to Vermilion County, IL. Also, in this cast of characters we have John Kiger/Kyger who married Sarah Parrish in KY in the 1790s. I toss them into the same pot since they also have a connection to the Henthornes. There are many coincidences within these various Kiger and Kyger families which indicate to me they are related in some way. I think we need to get all of the cards on the table where these Kiger/Kyger families are concerned. I think we will find John Georg Geiger and his brother Valentine at the root of all of the above--one or the other of them--but thinking and proving are two different things! Joan
