I will take things one step at a time. First, I am sure you will be hearing from Tracy Hunter who is on this list and who is researching the above Kigers. I knew about Anthony KIGER and the fact that he had died and that his daughter Elizabeth had Benjamin KIGER as a guardian. What I didn't know is that Benjamin KIGER was Anthony's brother--I was unsure of the relationship between the two--what is the basis for this statement that Benjamin was Anthony's brother? (I am not saying you are wrong--only that I didn't know this). As you say, you know from Jacob Kiger's will that he had brothers John and Benjamin (which I hadn't known as I don't have the will). Might they be sons of Anthony and not his brothers? Do you know anything about the age of Anthony Kiger when he died in 1812? Do you know his wife's name? Do you know if he was married more than once? All of the above questions are important in identifying this Anthony Kiger. Next I would ask you where Jacob Kiger was in 1820 if you know? I can't find him on the census--unless he is the Jacob Kiger in Augusta County, VA. I do find him in Parke County, IN in 1830. I find a John Kiger there in 1840. I am assuming this is Jacob's brother? Did Jacob die between 1830 and 1840? In 1850 I find a Martin Giger in Parke Co. and in 1860 I find Leroy Kiger (spelled Kyger on the census record) living there. We know quite a bit about Leroy thanks to his well publicized encounter with his brother-in-law, George Cramer in 1888 (during which an inebriated George Cramer threatened to kill all the Kigers and did in fact near-mortally wound Harry Kiger, Leroy's son), and I am in touch with descendants of Leroy's through his son Harrison. Do you know if these later Kigers are connected to the earlier Jacob and John? Gosh, I am full of questions! :) Do you know who Benjamin Kiger married and where he settled? Do you know his approximate age? My thoughts are that he may be the Benjamin Kiger who married Catharine Weikle of Augusta County, VA and who moved to Gallia County, Ohio and later to Jackson Co. and Clinton County, Ohio. Would that fit with what you know? That Benjamin would have been born around the 1770s most likely. Now--about the ancestry of Anthony Kiger. I had been toying with the idea that he might be Anthony Geiger, son of Christopher Geiger of Berks County, PA, who in turn was the son of Valentine Geiger of Ittlingen, Germany. However, if Benjamin is truly the brother of YOUR Anthony Kiger then this cannot be the case. That Anthony did NOT have a brother Benjamin. He did have brothers Jacob and John however. We know for a fact that this Anthony GEIGER moved to Rockingham County, VA and was living there in 1805 and was married to Christina Derst. The question also remains as to whether the Anthony Kiger, son of Christopher Kiger (which Dorothy Vekasi listed on the list from the pages of "Conflicts and Triumphs of an Itinerant" by T.D. Walker). who supposedly emigrated from Germany in 1750 is REALLY the same Anthony Geiger as listed above--but with some of the facts distorted. Again, if he is the Berks County, PA Anthony which I suspect he may be--then YOUR Anthony who died in 1812 must be yet another Anthony Kiger. This is sure getting confusing to say the least. I do NOT believe that Anthony KIGER of Rockingham County has any connection to Christian KYGER of Rockingham County, VA. WHEW! That's enough for now. Joan
