This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Geiger/Bennett/Martin/Sheffield Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JOY.2ACEB/917 Message Board Post: Dear Anne, Thanks so much for your information - If I could only find out who Mary "Mercy" Martin's parents were and where they were from, then I would have more of the puzzle - She married a Geiger and I think her father may have been The Reverend John A. Martin - maybe a Revolutionary War Soldier... Best Wishes, Nancy
It seems conclusive that Mercy is the daughter of John A. Martin of Bulloch/Bryan County GA because of the Deed for Lot 58 in Baldwin (now Randolph) County which was sold in 1810 following his death. The Deed for that Lot 58 is signed by his sons Elijah and James Martin, Abraham Geiger, Felix Geiger, and Stephen Riggs. See: <http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=surnames.geiger&m=638.1> It is known that Stephen Riggs was the husband of John's daughter Rachel (Martin) Riggs, and that Felix Geiger was the husband of John's daughter Mary (Martin) Geiger; therefore there was absolutely no reason for Abraham to have signed except that his wife Mercy was also the daughter of John A. Martin... What is unclear at this point is who their mother was...It appears that she may have been the Elizabeth Martin who is listed as his wife in Deeds during the late 1790's, and apparently she died before John gave the POA for Lot 58 to James Martin in 1809. Nothing else is recorded for her at this point, at least that has been discovered; however, the records of the areas of PA, from which the German Baptist Brethren Martin's came, have not been fully explored...I started this last year when I filed my Supplemental SAR Applications, and need to take it up again, as I let it lie while they were reviewing my applications...(I now have some Questions to respond to.) See:<http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=surnames.martin&m=8782> Seems like a lot of this discussion is being posted to the Geiger Family Query Board when it actually should be placed on the Gieger-L Mailing List because responses to gatewayed board messages never get to the originator.
