Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JOY.2ACEB/915.2.1 Message Board Post: What!? No names for George’s parents? Has this investigation been short-changed again? This is becoming repetitive. I ran a search in LDS for George Geiger, b. 1885 ± 5 and got a couple possibilities. The interesting one is George JAEGER or GAUGER, b. 24 JAN 1884 in Cook Co., IL. His mother’s name is Augusta J* or G*. There is no father listed. This seems a good match for date & location(?). And who knows where the name discrepancy comes from? The source is from the Cook Co. Circuit Court’s Registry of births, so it does have a factual reference. I looked in 1900 Census for Illinois for Augusta J*, G* or Y* [for Yaeger variations] and found nothing useful. So she is married, moved, deceased, or whatever. Likewise I found nothing for a George age 15 – 16 in Cook Co., IL, as a separate listing. I did not search the other counties separately. And he still may be in Cook Co. in a relative's household with the same G*, J* or Y* variant surname. There are a lot of them. In Illinois in the 1900 Census there are 181 listings for GEIGER with 62 in Cook Co. There are 81 listings for JAEGER in Cook Co. And there are 40 listings for GAUGER with 26 in Cook Co. This is an interesting match with the LDS data. There are also several listings for GAGER, not to mention other variants. So there are still a number of unexplored possibilities to find a match for George somewhere in the 1900 Census.
