    1. Geiger research in Baden: Questions
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JOY.2ACEB/923.1.1 Message Board Post: I am not a descendant of the early Pennsylvania Geigers. My Geiger line immigrated to Stark Co., Ohio, about 1825 from Eppingen and Richen (Baden, Germany). According to the American biography of John Jacob Geiger ( b. 1786, son of Paul Geiger), his youngest child, John Paul Geiger, was born in Eppingen in 1818. I know a lot of research has been done in early PA, but I am curious about the status of German research. Where, when, why, what and who knows anything about Geiger research in Baden? Is this research recent or a century old? For that matter, who has read the LDS films for Berwangen? And who knows about the locations and the status of other relevant archived documents in this area of Baden? You can't do much Ahnenforschung looking at the trees and soaking in the ambience. If you plan on using any archives, assuming they are open to the public, better confirm their specific days and hours of operation in advance. Email may not be acknowledged and correspondence may be backlogged, like a couple months. While it is tempting to attribute the all Geiger ancestry in this area of Baden to Paul Geiger, survivor of the Thirty Years War, this may be an oversimplification. How much of it can be tied together? How much will remain as loose ends? And where are those dreaded source footnotes?
